Basilan Ports

Basilan as an island province is linked by port facilities to mainland Minadanao and other facilities. The main port if the Isabela City (Figure A) and the second is in Lamitan (Figure C.) but the busiest which goes far beyond our borders are the Maluso Ports (Figure B).

  • Shallow ports – this port is a doorway to other municipalities. Zamboanga City, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. This is the main port of “Basnig”  (Fishing Boat Type Transport) travelling to other provinces.

  • Deep sea port – this is the port of entry of the once flourishing logging industry in the island province. Today it serves as the loading and unloading facility of products coming in and out of Maluso. It can accommodate even the international sea going vessel.

  • Fishing Port – Maluso is known as the fishing granary of Basilan. This port serve as link to Zamboanga City and the rest of Mindanao. Trucks from as far as Davao City are buying fish from this port. There are also fish buying stations in the area. The Ro-Ro port in Isabela City made it easy and fast in transporting fish outside of the province.

Lamitan terminal under construction, and funded by the city government of Lamitan City, and other boat landing is funded by the USAid in coordination with the local government of basilan.




Basilan LGU funded for areas affected by conflicts

The Provincial Government funded a 1.5 Million pesos for those area affected by the ongoing operation/conflict between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the MILF at Al-Barka Municipality, Basilan.

There are 15 Barangay’s affected:

  2. Mag Kawa
  3. Kuhun
  4. Kaili
  5. Bakisung
  6. Bohe Piyang
  7. Danapah
  8. Makalang
  9. Kuhun Lennuh
  10. Batu-Batu
  11. Look Bisaya
  12. Sangkahan
  13. Bukalew
  14. Kambug
  15. Linuan

The Provincial Government of Basilan in coordination with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD), Provincial Information Office (PIO), Provincial Engineers Office (PEO), PHRMDO, and other concerned agencies joined force to deliver the relief goods to the evacuees.

[PIO-Basilan - Basilan, Philippines] An ongoing project: A construction of 2 storey (8 class room) school building with facilities at Buton, Mohammad Ajul, Basilan. This project is funded by the Government in cooperation with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) through the ARMM social fund the proponent of this project is the Department of Education.

CIRCUMFERENTIAL ROAD (PARANG-BASAK, LAMITAN CITY, BASILAN)

CIRCUMFERENTIAL ROAD (PARANG-BASAK, LAMITAN CITY, BASILAN)

[PIO-Basilan - Basilan, Philippines] A third project is the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded concrete paving of the Provincial Road portion located in Parangbasak, Lamitan City, with a 10% equity counterpart funding by the Provincial Government.

The Provincial Government under Gov. Hja. Jum Jainuddin-Akbar is targeting the completion of major road network projects to coincide with the completion of the Basilan Circumferential Road.

As stated in the Annual State of the Province Address delivered on March 7, this year, Gov. Akbar has prioritized infrastructure development as one of the vital services through which the LGU may directly affect the lives of its constituents, facilitating trade of goods between farmers in the hinterlands and entrepreneurs in the towns and population centers.


Basilan LGU Fast Track Road Network

[PIO-Basilan - Basilan, Philippines] With a renewed drive to improve the existing road network ringing Basilan island, the Provincial Government, under the aegis of Gov. Jum J. Akbar, has fast-tracked several road infrastructure projects for the remainder of 2011.

The Provincial Government’s road-building program is anchored on the Governor’s pledge that the LGU shall assist in the completion of the all-weather Basilan Circumferential Road, and the maintenance and rehabilitation of vital provincial road arteries. Funds will likewise be made available to open up new areas for economic development via the construction of new farm-to-market roads.

To date, several road construction/rehabilitation projects are currently online and awaiting completion before the 4th quarter of 2011.

Among these road projects, a priority is placed on several road projects, among which are the Department of Agriculture (DA)-assisted Lantawan Provincial Road, or the concrete paving of the road portion from Brgy. Sumagdang, Isabela City to Brgy. Tairan, Lantawan, with LGU funding derived from the Province’s 20% Development Fund.

Basilan Rd Prj2Another priority project is the completion of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) loan-assisted construction of the New Provincial Capitol Building located in Brgy. Sumagdang, Isabela City.

Aimed at providing the Provincial Government with new and bigger spaces within which to conduct business, the New Provincial Capitol will replace the current structure by 2012, with the old Capitol being programmed to be turned-over to a Provincial Museum, some Provincial Offices of National Line Agencies, Municipal LGUs’ satellite offices, etc.
